Unsolicited Commercial Email Information
Recently, a great deal of unsolicited commercial email, also known as "spam", has been sent with "From" addresses that end in "@tookish.net". In every case, the "From" address is forged, and the email did not come from Tookish Digital Communication or originate on the Tookish Digital Communication web server. The "From" header in an email address is very easy to forge, and spammers do so to avoid being tracked down.
You can see where the mail actually came from by viewing the full headers of the message and reading the contents of the "Received" lines, which can not be forged. Here's an example of some headers from a recent piece of spam that purported to come from kmnzlgwof@tookish.net:
Subject: Webs Best for
From: "stuff." <kmnzlgwof@tookish.net>
Date: Mon, 12 Oct 2015 11:05:52 +0700
Received: from [87.110.120.212] ([87.110.120.212]) by wmigvs01.mizuho-cb.com (8.12.10/) with ESMTP id k9C85boP025413 for <xxxx@xxxx.xxx>; Thu, 12 Oct 2006 17:05:40 +0900 (JST)
Note that the "Received" line indicates that the message originated at a machine with the IP address "87.110.120.212". This machine is not affiliated with Tookish Digital Communication in any way. The IP address of our web server is 69.55.237.77.
If you wish to pursue this issue in an attempt to track down the real party or parties responsible. your best bet is to copy the full headers and the body of the message and paste them into the "INTERROGATE!" form at SpamCop. This service will determine where the mail originated, and provide you instructions for informing the people in charge of the machine.
